The Nusystems Lagoon Program is a continuous care system that uses biological science to understand the current state of a lagoon in order to treat it correctly. Change of season, capacity and neglect are some of the reasons why lagoons can lose efficiency and if left untreated can eventually fail. As a lagoon’s efficiency degrades, a host of problems occur as the systems become more and more septic.
- Foul odors will concentrate and carry with the wind into communities
- Solid sewage will not decompose as readily and sludge will build up on the bottom of the lagoon. Each inch of sludge buildup can reduce capacity by as much as 81,000 galloons of water per acre of lagoon.
- Lastly, permit levels may be exceeded for BOD/COD resulting in fines that add to the overall cost of operation.

How the NuSystems Lagoon Program works.
The treatment of wastewaters in both municipal and industrial applications nearly always incorporates a biological process at some stage. The removal of both natural and synthetic organic contaminants is accomplished in biological systems consisting of single and multicellular organisms where numerous mechanisms such as enzymatic simplification and direct absorption take place. Populations of many different types of organisms exist at varying levels depending on food (waste) source, temperature, pH, oxygen level, etc. This combined population is collectively known as biomass.
Maintaining a biomass requires tight control of a number of parameters, loss of control through improper operation, presence of toxicants or sudden environmental changes can result in contaminants passing through the system. Failure of a biomass may result in environmental damage and restoring its health can require considerable time and effort.
The products are designed to enhance the efficiency of this biomass by improving oxygen utilization efficiency through acclimation with a continuous feed of 2-10ppm. This level generally increases the metabolic uptake rate so that more oxygen is available for the biomass which reduces COD, H2S, ammonia, phosphorus and other contaminants.
By utilizing a special system of biosurfactants, enzymes and other life science technologies, our products are also very effective as cleaners as well as wastewater additives meeting FDA, USDA, EPA, and DEQ requirements.
